Service Technician

Smith Engineering is a growing manufacturer of custom water filtration equipment located in Chaska, Minnesota.  We consider our service team our best source of new customers!  We offer competitive pay and excellent benefit packages, as well as opportunities for personal growth and career advancement.  We are seeking an experienced, professional Water Service Technician to join our service team.


If you are capable of the tasks below, please apply – we want to talk to you!

  • Read and interpret plumbing and electrical drawings
  • Troubleshoot and repair AC and DC electrical circuits
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydronic systems
  • Diagnose and repair water softeners
  • Maintain and repair exchange DI systems
  • Maintain and repair Reverse osmosis systems
  • Maintain and repair waste water treatment systems
  • Install and repair ultrapure water distribution systems
  • Install and start up water treatment systems
  • Perform simple Calibration of pH, resistivity and flow meters
  • Possess a Basic understanding of PLC logic
  • Understanding of electrical panel wiring


Additional requirements:

  • Clean driving record with the ability to obtain a DOT health card for commercial vehicle operation
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening
  • Some night/weekend overtime
  • Occasional on-call for emergency service
  • Occasional travel
  • Possess excellent customer service

Starting salary based on experience level.

DI Route and Plant Technician

Smith Engineering Inc. is a growing manufacturer of custom purified water treatment equipment located in Chaska, MN. We are a thriving small business that offers a fast paced, professional, yet casual approach to the workplace. DI Regeneration Technician Responsibilities and Qualifications:

 * Unloading and loading resin from exchange tanks

* Starting and monitoring multiple automated regeneration systems

* Changing out filter cartridges and monitoring in-house systems

* Repair and numbering of exchange tanks

* Strong organizational skills

* Strong visual / detail skills

* Outstanding personal reliability and dependability

* Other duties as directed by the Deionization Manager

 DI Route Responsibilities and Qualifications:

 * Move DI water tanks with hand truck

* Perform daily exchanges on deionized water systems

* Maintain accurate daily service records using an IPad

* Drive box truck (26,000 lbs. gross weight)

* Show basic knowledge of plumbing

* Demonstrate outstanding personal reliability and dependability

* Other duties as directed by the Deionization Manager


 Our ideal DI Route and Regeneration Technician has the following:

 * Minimum High School Diploma

* Trade school certification or experience in plumbing and water treatment

* DI resin regeneration experience

* Understanding the Principles of Ion Exchange Resin

* Be knowledgeable of the chemical treatment waste process

* Desire to work in a “team” environment

* Desire to work overtime when needed

* Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check

* Must possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

* Must possess or qualify for a DOT card

 * A desire to work 10:00 am to 6:30 pm (may fluctuate in the future)


Position requires:

 * Lifting in excess of 50 pounds

* Walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling and on your feet most of the day, working with a two wheel hand truck.
