Project Engineer

PROJECT ENGINEER


This is not your typical engineering role.

It is best described as a concoction of project management, mechanical engineering, sales, and a little bit of chemical engineering sprinkled in. It requires a high-energy and hands-on individual. You need to enjoy getting out and talking to customers as much as you like to design. Your end goal here is to create specialized water systems that meet the needs of our growing customer base. The general idea is we teach you the fundamentals of water treatment and let you run with it. We want you to help us take the company even further then we already have. This position represents the core of our company and critical to our operation.

General responsibilities

  • Account management
    • Represent our products with assigned customers
    • Host webinars
    • Speak at small to midsized seminars
  • Project Management
    • Design meetings
    • Build Support
    • Start-up and qualification support
  • Design/Engineering
    • Learn water treatment concepts and apply them
    • Create conceptual 2D prints
    • Work with our internal engineering team to create 3D models, electrical diagrams and system operational programs.

Benefits

The key skills and qualities of a Project Engineer:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree, in Mechanical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering. Or similar degree with relevant experience.
  • 2+ years of project management experience with good organization.
  • Willingness to travel. Typically, it has been about once a quarter.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, able to build and develop effective relationships with both colleagues and customers
  • Highly self-motivated and able to prioritize workstreams and manage your own time effectively
  • The willingness and dedication to learn the Smith Engineering method for water purification as well as the technologies of our vendors
  • Basic computer skills, having knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Experience in Autocad and Solidworks
  • Has a driver’s license, with the ability to be insured to drive a company vehicle

The Company

Smith Engineering Inc specializes in highly purified water solutions used primarily in the medical device, pharma, bio-tech, semiconductor and food and beverage industries. We design and manufacture custom high purity water treatment equipment; support all water treatment equipment with a fleet of field service technicians; and distribute products utilized in high purity process environments. DI Route Driver


Smith Engineering Inc. is a growing manufacturer of custom purified water treatment equipment located in Chaska, MN. We are a thriving small business that offers a fast paced, professional, yet casual approach to the workplace. As a DI Route Driver, you will be completing tank exchanges for customers within the Twin Cities metro area.  You will work as a team with other DI Drivers and Technicians to meet the needs of the customer in a timely fashion.

This position’s main responsibilities:

  • Move DI water tanks with hand truck
  • Perform daily exchanges on deionized water systems
  • Maintain accurate daily service records using an IPad
  • Drive box truck (26,000 lbs gross weight)
  • Show basic knowledge of plumbing
  • Demonstrate outstanding personal reliability and dependability
  • Other duties as directed by the Deionization Manager

 

A qualified applicant for this position has:

  • Minimum High School Diploma
  • Trade school certification or experience in plumbing and water treatment
  • Desire to work in a “team” environment
  • Desire to work overtime when needed
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Must possess or qualify for a DOT card
  • Possess excellent customer service

This position requires:

  • Lifting in excess of 50 pounds
  • Walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling and on your feet most of the day

Equipment Technician qualifications:

  • Layout of components for assembly from standard CAD plumbing drawings
  • Assembly of water treatment equipment to include softeners, deionization, and filtration equipment
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong visual / detail skills
  • Outstanding personal reliability and dependability
  • Other duties as directed by the Equipment Build Manger

Our ideal Equipment Technician has the following:

  • Minimum High School Diploma
  • Trade school certification or experience in plumbing and water treatment assembly
  • Ability to read and interpret 2D CAD technical drawings
  • Experience with PVC piping
  • Electrical and/or welding experience a plus
  • Desire to work in a “team” environment
  • Desire to work occasional overtime and weekend requirements
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record. Also must possess or qualify for a DOT card
  • A desire to work 7:00-3:30 M-F
