Project Engineer

PROJECT ENGINEER


This is not your typical engineering role.

It is best described as a concoction of project management, mechanical engineering, sales, and a little bit of chemical engineering sprinkled in. It requires a high-energy and hands-on individual. You need to enjoy getting out and talking to customers as much as you like to design. Your end goal here is to create specialized water systems that meet the needs of our growing customer base. The general idea is we teach you the fundamentals of water treatment and let you run with it. We want you to help us take the company even further then we already have. This position represents the core of our company and critical to our operation.

General responsibilities

  • Account management
    • Represent our products with assigned customers
    • Host webinars
    • Speak at small to midsized seminars
  • Project Management
    • Design meetings
    • Build Support
    • Start-up and qualification support
  • Design/Engineering
    • Learn water treatment concepts and apply them
    • Create conceptual 2D prints
    • Work with our internal engineering team to create 3D models, electrical diagrams and system operational programs.

Benefits

The key skills and qualities of a Project Engineer:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree, in Mechanical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering. Or similar degree with relevant experience.
  • 2+ years of project management experience with good organization.
  • Willingness to travel. Typically, it has been about once a quarter.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, able to build and develop effective relationships with both colleagues and customers
  • Highly self-motivated and able to prioritize workstreams and manage your own time effectively
  • The willingness and dedication to learn the Smith Engineering method for water purification as well as the technologies of our vendors
  • Basic computer skills, having knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Experience in Autocad and Solidworks
  • Has a driver’s license, with the ability to be insured to drive a company vehicle

The Company

Smith Engineering Inc specializes in highly purified water solutions used primarily in the medical device, pharma, bio-tech, semiconductor and food and beverage industries. We design and manufacture custom high purity water treatment equipment; support all water treatment equipment with a fleet of field service technicians; and distribute products utilized in high purity process environments. Warehouse Specialist

WAREHOUSE SPECIALIST


Smith Engineering is a growing manufacturer of custom purified water treatment equipment located in Chaska, MN. We are a thriving small business that offers a fast paced, professional, yet casual approach to the workplace. This position’s main responsibilities:

  • Responsible for loading and unloading of material on trucks.
  • Receives goods, verifies items against the pack slip, inspects condition, labels and disburses as required.
  • Pulls parts for production and stages materials for job builds and service orders.
  • Records received items and enters shipping information in the accounting system.
  • Fill in for other warehouse personnel.
  • Timely delivers orders to other departments.
  • Work with all departments with a great attitude.

FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN

We are searching for a mature, independent Water Service Technician.  We are a growing company in a niche marketplace.  We appreciate and take care of our employees with unique benefits such as performance bonuses and company sponsored events.

Field Service Technician

Field Service Technicians are responsible for diagnosing and correcting complex system failures, making field modifications to existing systems and performing preventative maintenance on systems. Other responsibilities may include building low and high voltage electrical panels from wiring diagrams and plumbing systems in our manufacturing area.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Communicate with customers and coworkers
  • Troubleshoot and repair AC and DC electrical circuits
  • Read and interpret plumbing and electrical schematics
  • Experience with electrical panel wiring, low and high voltage
  • Experience with machine wiring
  • Familiarity with UL Codes
  • Possess a basic understanding of PLC logic
  • Experience with programming of PLC’s
  • Experience with programming and troubleshooting VFD’s
  • Experience with plumbing PVC, CPVC, Teflon and other piping
  • Provide electrical integration services of new and old equipment, along with any updates requested by customers
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems
  • Plumbing of mechanical systems
  • Plumbing of distribution piping
  • Perform preventative maintenance on mechanical systems
  • Calibrate measurement devices
  • Installation and on-site startup of new equipment
  • Organized, on-time completion of required documentation
  • Regular overtime & weekend work is required
  • Occasional travel (domestic and international)
  • Technicians participate in on-call rotation

 

Requirements

  • Must poses an associate’s degree in automation, fluid power, mechatronics or a related field.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Occasional overtime and weekends.
